How laser tattoo removal works Laser breaks it, body clears it.

The laser sends very short pulses of light into the skin. The ink absorbs the light and shatters into tiny particles, which your immune system then carries away over the following weeks. That is why the tattoo fades between sessions, not on the day, and why sessions are spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Black and dark blue usually fade best. Some colours, such as light green, yellow and some reds, can be slower or may not fully clear.

Is tattoo removal right for you? The honest checklist.

    You'll love it if

    • You have a tattoo you no longer love and you are ready to let it go.
    • You want an old tattoo lightened so a new one can cover it cleanly.
    • Your tattoo has faded or blurred and you want a fresh start.
    • You want a plan with a clear price per session.

    Not right now if

    • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
    • The area is sunburnt, tanned, or has fake tan, an infection or broken skin.
    • Your tattoo is less than about 6 to 8 weeks old.
    • You take medication that makes skin sensitive to light, or you have taken isotretinoin in the last 6 months.
    • You form keloid or raised scars easily: tell us at your patch test.

Session by session From patch test to faded.

    1. Patch test

10 minutes, at least 48 hours before your first session. We check your skin, the ink and the size, and estimate the number of sessions and the price.

    2. Your plan

Full removal or lightening for a cover-up, agreed upfront.

    3. Protection

You wear protective glasses. The area is cleansed.

    4. Treatment

Quick laser pulses pass over the tattoo. It feels like hot snaps of an elastic band. Most sessions take a few minutes of laser time.

    5. Straight after

The tattoo may turn white for a few minutes (this is normal), then red and swollen. A dressing goes on.

    6. Heal and repeat

The ink fades over the next weeks. Sessions are usually 6 to 8 weeks apart.

Before and after tattoo removal A little prep, an easy recovery.

    • Do: If there is hair on the area, shave it.

Tattoo removal questions Straight answers, before you book.

How many sessions does tattoo removal take?

Usually 6 to 12, sometimes more, 6 to 8 weeks apart. It depends on the colours, how deep the ink sits, the age of the tattoo and whether it was done professionally. Lightening for a cover-up often takes fewer.

How much is tattoo removal in Dublin?

At Mirabell, laser tattoo removal starts from €50 per session. The price depends on the size, confirmed at your €20 patch test, which comes off your first session.

    Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Most clients compare it to hot snaps of an elastic band. It is quick: most sessions take only a few minutes of laser time.

Can every tattoo be removed completely?

Not always. Many tattoos fade until they are hard to see, but some colours and very dense ink may leave a faint shadow. We are honest about this at your patch test.

Will tattoo removal leave a scar?

Scarring is uncommon when the skin is treated with care and given time to heal. Picking scabs, popping blisters or treating too often raises the risk.

Can you lighten a tattoo for a cover-up?

Yes. A few sessions can lighten old ink enough that your tattoo artist can cover it cleanly. Tell us the plan and we will work with it.

Can you remove old eyebrow tattoo?

Yes, with laser. See PMU correction and removal for brows and lips.
