Semi-permanent brows healing, day by day Every stage, explained

You left the clinic with perfect brows. By the next morning you were sure they were too dark, too thick and that everyone at work would notice. Two weeks later, you were sure they had vanished.
Both feelings are normal, and both pass. Here is what happens at each stage, and what to do.
Brows healing at a glance
| Stage | What you see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Days 1 to 7 | Darker, bolder and sharper than the final result | Follow your aftercare method. Keep brows clean |
| Days 5 to 10 | Light flaking, brows can itch | Do not pick, rub or peel |
| Weeks 2 to 3 | Colour looks patchy, soft or almost gone | Be patient. Colour is settling under the skin |
| Weeks 4 to 6 | Your healed brows show | Note any lighter spots for your touch-up |
| Weeks 6 to 8 | Touch-up appointment | We perfect shape and colour |
Everyone heals a little differently. These are typical stages, not exact dates.
Days 1 to 7: why are my brows so dark?
Fresh pigment sits near the surface of the skin, so brows look darker, bolder and sharper than they will once healed. This is the strongest your brows will ever look. As the top layer of skin heals and flakes, the colour softens.
Keep going with the method you were given. We offer dry healing (brows kept clean and dry with no balm) and wet healing (a thin layer of the aftercare balm we give you). We tell you which suits your skin and show you how.
Days 5 to 10: is flaking normal?
Yes. Light flaking is part of healing, and brows can itch. The golden rule: do not pick, rub or peel. Pulling a flake off early can pull pigment out with it and leave a gap.
Weeks 2 to 3: where did my brows go?
This is the stage that worries most women. Once the flakes are gone, a fresh layer of healing skin sits over the pigment, so colour can look patchy, soft or almost gone. Some artists call it ghosting.
The colour has not disappeared. It returns as the skin settles. Do not judge your result now, and do not book anything to "fix" it.
Weeks 4 to 6: when do I see my real brows?
Your healed brows show at around 4 to 6 weeks. The colour is softer and more natural than on day one. Some strokes or areas may hold more colour than others. That is normal, and it is what the touch-up is for.
Why do you need a touch-up?
Every skin holds pigment differently, so a touch-up 6 to 8 weeks after your first session lets us fill any lighter areas and perfect the shape once your brows have healed. At Mirabell, the first touch-up is booked and paid separately, from €80. After that, a colour refresh every 12 to 18 months keeps brows sharp.
Semi-permanent brows aftercare: the rules that protect your colour
- Follow your dry or wet healing method exactly as shown.
- No gym, saunas, swimming, sunbeds or make-up on the brows for 7 to 10 days.
- No facials, peels or retinol near the brows until healed.
- Do not pick, rub or peel flakes.
- Once healed, use SPF on your brows to keep the colour longer.
Your written aftercare is for the method we chose for your skin. If anything here is different from your sheet, follow your sheet.
When should you call the clinic?
Some redness, tenderness and flaking are normal. Contact us straight away on +353 85 186 5581, and your GP, if you notice:
- Swelling or pain that gets worse after the first few days instead of better.
- Heat, spreading redness, yellow crusts or pus.
- A fever or feeling unwell.

Quick questions Short answers from this guide.
How long do semi-permanent brows take to heal?
About 4 to 6 weeks. Brows look darker for about a week, flake lightly, can look patchy in weeks 2 to 3, and show their healed colour at 4 to 6 weeks.
Why are my brows so dark after semi-permanent makeup?
Fresh pigment sits near the surface, so brows look darker and sharper for about a week. They soften as the skin heals and flakes.
Why have my brows faded after two weeks?
After flaking, a fresh layer of healing skin covers the pigment, so colour can look patchy or almost gone in weeks 2 to 3. This is normal, and colour returns as the skin settles.
When can I wear make-up on my brows again?
Avoid make-up on the brows for 7 to 10 days, and until they have healed. Gym, saunas, swimming and sunbeds also wait 7 to 10 days.
When should I get my brow touch-up?
Book your touch-up 6 to 8 weeks after your first session. At Mirabell it is booked and paid separately, from €80.
Dry or wet healing: which is better?
Both work well. Dry healing keeps brows clean and dry with no balm; wet healing uses a thin layer of aftercare balm. We advise which suits your skin.
